February is one of my favourite months of the year, is the month when we book our first travels and we also make a healthy lifestyle plan for the year ahead. I think January is a very slow month so we are just trying to get used to the new year, there is no need to burden ourselves with future plans or crazy diets. In February, we can just start by looking at what fresh product is available and start building a meal plan based on that. ![]() I love using the 800 Diet books as they have lots of amazing recipes using fresh ingredients, they are easy and quick to make and they are also very nutritious and low in calories! Planning ahead plays a very important role here. I sit down every Saturday with a notebook and a few 800 books and choose maybe 4, 5 recipes for the week ahead and then go shopping accordingly. I also try to not overspend when doing so, just by focusing on plant based recipes and batch cooking for 2 days in one night. By doing so, we eat a variety of recipes so we avoid getting bored of the lifestyle change, as we all know the main reason why people don't stick to healthy meals for periods of time is lack of variety and eating the same boring recipes all the time. February is also be the month when, as days get longer, we go out on date night more often and we spend more time walking in nature. I can say hand on heart that to avoid boredom in a relationship, you need at least one date night every week. I know what you'll say...is expensive to go out once a week for date night! Especially if you live in a big city, like London! I will tell what we do. Our families gift us a few activities vouchers every Christmas. We book these throughout January and February, so no expenses there! Also, if you have SKY TV, you get 2 free cinema tickets every month, so date night at the cinema, again free! Of course, there are lots of free activities that you can enjoy even in chilly weather, like the free Zoo in Golders Green or walking the beautiful South Bank, while admiring stunning architecture. The good news about big cities is that there will always be something free or cheap to do somewhere in the city! This year, I have to say I miss travelling in February as I just graduated from University and I am in the lookout for a new career, but I can tell you where we have been in previous years and had a blast! Few years ago, we went to the the Algaves in Portugal, perfect sunny weather, not too busy, we had the best time on the beach and by the river bank, even got to go on a boat trip to the famous caves. Spent the best Valentine's Day in Alvor, with fresh fish and beautiful red wine and even came back with a tan. Amazing Portugal trip in February! One year, we spent a great week in Scotland, in Auchterarder, in the most beautiful hotel, with stunning food, a whisky bar and a gorgeous massive fireplace. We enjoyed lots of country walks and train rides to close by seaside and country side. It was a memorable experience! Last year, we went to Bournemouth for a few days in February. We had such a great weather, stayed in a beautiful little B&B up on the hill, enjoyed long walks on the beach and got to visit some new sites in Bournemouth that we didn't see in our previous visit a few years back. It is a beautiful destination for February! We also went to Southern on Sea one year for only 2 nights in February. We stayed in a gorgeous sea-view room in the best B&B ever and enjoyed lots of great food and long beach walks although the wind was quite strong! We absolutely love Thorpe Bay in any season! Another year, we went to Romania and spent a few days with my parents. If you are an expat like me, you know how important it is to go back home and see your family and friends! Bonus: plain tickets are a lot cheaper in February than in December! So Win Win! As long as you are with the people you love, it doesn't matter where you go! The most important thing is what you do and how you get to spend the last winter month! Let's not forget, in just a few weeks, spring will be here! Hang in there my friends!
